Top Cleaning Uses for Hydrogen Peroxide

While most people are familiar with its first aid uses such as disinfecting small cuts, it is a great choice for anyone who wants to avoid using harsh chemicals when cleaning their home.

How to Clean with Hydrogen Peroxide

For house cleaning applications, hydrogen peroxide can be used straight from the bottle. Unlike bleach, it does not need to be diluted. It does not have a harsh smell, leaving behind only the smell of a clean home.

  • Tile Cleaner: Hydrogen peroxide makes a great tile and grout cleaner. Put it in a spray bottle and apply it directly to the tile. For grout, first, mix it with flour to make a cleaning paste. Cover with plastic overnight and rinse with water in the morning.
  • Drains: Mix one cup of hydrogen peroxide with one tablespoon of baking soda. Pour it down the drain. The foam will help clean your drain and leave it smelling fresh.
  • Toilet Bowls: Use half a cup of hydrogen peroxide in a toilet bowl. Before scrubbing, let it sit for 30 minutes.
  • Glass: Peroxide makes a great glass cleaner. Just spray it on and wipe.
  • Disinfecting Surfaces: Hydrogen peroxide is useful for disinfecting food contact surfaces. It doesn’t even need to be rinsed. Just spray it on and let it dry.
  • Laundry Whitener: Hydrogen peroxide can brighten your yellowed clothing and remove stains. Soak your laundry in one cup of peroxide plus the water you would normally use in your machine. Let it soak for up to half an hour. It can also help remove stains like blood, wine, and coffee. Mix with dish detergent and apply it to the stain.
  • Dishwasher Cleaner and Detergent Booster: Simply add hydrogen peroxide to your usual dishwashing detergent to clean your machine. You can also add some to your dish soap for a boosted clean.

    • Hydrogen peroxide is a low-cost alternative to some of the harsh detergents and chemicals most people use to clean their homes. Try using it in place of some of the heavy products you normally buy and enjoy its cleaning and disinfecting properties.
