Tankless water heaters are generally more expensive up front than traditional water heaters. This is a reason that many people are at first hesitant to choose a tankless water heater.
Unfortunately, the lower initial cost of traditional water heaters does not often translate into the operation of this type of unit. They are generally more expensive to operate and use more energy than tankless water heaters. Another downside is that with a traditional water heater, your supply of hot water is limited to whatever is stored in the tank. You may need to wait for hot water to be available before you can use it.
