Guest Bathroom Essentials
If you’re hosting this holiday season, it’s time to make the guest bathroom worthy of its name. Here’s how:
Are your personal items taking up space in the medicine cabinet? Do the drawers contain a grotty toothbrush and a crusty razor? Your belongings don’t belong in the guest bathroom. Clear out your stuff so guests don’t feel like they’re intruding.
You’ve grown so accustomed to those funky odors that you don’t notice them anymore, but your guests surely will. Masking the smell isn’t enough. First, open the window to let the bathroom air out before your guests arrive. Then, use a reed diffuser for a subtle, natural fragrance.
Upgrade Your Towels
Old, worn-out towels aren’t exactly welcoming. Replace them with Turkish cotton towels. Fluffy and ultra-absorbent, these towels will give your guests a spa-like experience in your home.
Provide the Essentials
Hotels do it. Why shouldn’t you? Offering an assortment of travel-sized necessities will cover anything your guests may have forgot to pack. Consider providing the following travel-sized toiletries:
- Cotton balls
Bonus points if you arrange them in a decorative basket.
Ensure Their Privacy
Even if the door to your guest bathroom has a lock, no one wants to hear the doorknob jiggling or have to answer a knock at the door. You can easily make an “occupied” sign out of cardboard — Or use ours! — to prevent any awkward situations.
A small fan and a radio will also help cancel any potentially embarrassing noises.
Prevent Plumbing Mishaps
It’s every overnight visitor’s worst nightmare: Clogging the toilet. It’s awkward for you. It’s awkward for them. Follow these tips to prevent plumbing problems:
- Keep a plunger and toilet scrubber in plain sight
- Install a mesh drain strainer in the shower
- Hang a sign encouraging people to throw cotton balls, Q-tips, and the like in the wastebasket — not in the toilet. Make your own sign or use ours!
