Is My Furnace Blowing Too Hot?

We all want two things from our heating system during the Winter months– comfort and affordability. Some folks don’t know how to make the two work together, and those people are left paying big utility bills for 4-5 months in a row. We don’t want you to be one of those people.

What Is the Ideal Temperature to Set My Thermostat?

Day: Common sense would tell you to raise the temperature on your thermostat if you want warmer temperatures, but this is not necessarily true. The higher you raise the thermostat, the greater the discrepancy is between your indoor temperature and the outdoor air. This leads to a lot of heat loss through cracks, crevices and small escape routes in your home. The Energy Star recommended daytime temperature is between 68°F and 72°F.

Night:  During the nighttime hours, you have blankets and the comfort of sleep to get you through the night. You can lower the temperature starting around your normal bedtime and this will help you save big. The Energy Star recommended night time temperature is between 60°F and 64°F.

How Can I Save Money on My Heating?

  • Upgrade your furnace to an energy-efficient model.
  • Set aside an indoor sweater that you can wear around the house. Make sure it is extra cozy and remember… nobody is going to see it!
  • Run your hands along with the frames of your windows and doors. Caulk over any air leaks you can notice.
  • Start using your oven for food and for heat. The oven can heat at least one room of your home.
  • Use AAA Service for your Safety Inspection.
